Why Are the Pockets Sewn Shut on Womens Dress Pants

  • I'm wearing a new pair of pants. They appear to have completely functional pockets from the inside, but on the outside, the pocket openings are sewn shut.

  • So they don't sag on the rack.

  • Are they suit pants? That's how they all are. There should be a thread on one side to pull on and open them up.

  • because jesus knows you'd touch yourself if they weren't.

  • so you don't put crap in them and ruin the lines of your pants. screw that, but the stitches and use em.

  • Since when did women's clothing make sense?

Men's suit jacket/blazer pockets get the same treatment. Since I don't put anything in thoes pockets anyhow, I don't bother unstitching them.

Yeah, do you really want to get into a debate as to the functionality of the necktie?

And, men's suits have the same pockets sewn shut.

The necktie is the modern interpretation of the scarf, IIRC. Although I used to think it was derived from a bib, given the way my dad eats.

'Because you touch yourself at night'

  • ita all about style. Some pants are ment to be tight, and seems like you are not supposed to put anything bigger than a 20$ bill in the pockets.

Women almost always have purses too, so why the need for pockets? Just for the looks.

Girls pants do this sometimes so you can wear them tight and not show the lining of the pocket through the fabric.

    ghey

I carry and handbag and a briefcase (on some occasions) and I always use my pockets. I will put my keys in my pocket, or a pen, if I'm at work, or my hands if I'm walking. They're completely functional. In fact, I have a couple jackets that don't feature pockets and, quite frankly, it's a pain.

  • where they inspected by #24227? If so she is not very good. She slacks off and does not actually inspect them. Boy if I ever find 24227!

Normally, fine suit pants do this, as well. I think it's to prevent anything getting into the pocket during shipping and to maintain the line of the pant until the wearer uses it. But, typically, tighter pants that do this are of inferior quality and you're right, made simply for looks. Or, some cheap clothes simple have pocket flap-over and no pockets! How stupid is that??

  • So these pants are upscale?

I like pockets because I have one of those hid cards to get in and out of all the doors in the building. I hate having to clip it to myself when I'm wearing something without pockets.

  • I keep my card in my wallet..

Depends. What are they made out of? Where did you find them?

  • Ouch.

  • They sew them shut because they know women don't need to bring any ID or Money to the bars with them.
