How to Get Your Stuff Back When You Die in Runescape

On this page I will broadly go over ironman-specific methods for training skills, as well as useful rewards and helpful items + how to get them. I will try not to repeat stuff from the skill training guides on wiki, so look at those for more help. I also won't repeat quest, area achievement or port requirements here.

Broadly useful stuff [edit | edit source]

Some stuff transcend skills so much I'll mention it all here.

  • The Honed perk is useful while fishing, mining and woodcutting. Use Sharp components (most weapons and bladed salvage) to get a furnace combo or Silent components (disassemble Superior Death Lotus tabi from ports) to get it on its own.
  • The Wise perk gives some extra xp. It's best put on an offhand or shield so you can wear a useful mainhand, but it can also be put on a mainhand, ideally one of the o-matic tools (since they're cheap to make). You can get it from the rare Seren components or Pious components.
  • The Wisdom aura can give 2.5% extra xp in a lot of skills but works for only 30 minutes per day and costs a pretty steep 40k loyalty points.
  • The Urn enhancer boosts the xp from every urn by 25% and while expensive to make, is very cheap to maintain (only 20 charge per teleport).
  • Sliske's Endgame awards the Ring of whispers (invisible +3 in all gathering skills) and Necklace of shadows (no summoning point drain), which can be useful while training gathering skills although it takes the slots of the grace. Combine them with the Combined Catalyst fragment to get extra xp while training any skill.
  • The Grace of the Elves can take a while to get, but provides bonus items when gathering and can be charged with 500 porter charges at a time, making it very useful for divination, farming, fishing, hunter, mining and woodcutting. Use of the Luck of the Dwarves while clicking the Seren spirits can further increase the items gained. For optimal xp, take the ring only as a switch in your inventory and switch from the Ring of Whispers only when a Seren spirit spawns.
  • Get tier 10 Menaphos reputation to improve the carpet pets to give extra xp. The xp is half of what the Endgame set gives, but they can be stacked to get about 15k extra xp every hour.
  • Brooch of the Gods has very minor effects but gives free components. Not really worth it unless you already are good on your soul reaper unlocks.

To boost a skill, you can always use on of the following methods (except on summoning, invention and prayer):

  • The God banner provides a +2 boost every 15 seconds for 30 minutes in a skill of your choice.
  • Spicy stew can give up to a +6 boost (after Evil Dave's Big Day Out). Stew is sold in the Seers' Village bar through a dialogue as well as on Mos Le'Harmless and in the warrior's guild. If you want to maintain a boost for a long time, the boost will decay every minute after logging in. So if you log in at 19:04:12 and drink a boosting stew at 19:43:02, the boost will decay after 10 seconds. You can log out to 'reset' this effect.

Agility [edit | edit source]

One of the worst skills to train.

Useful Rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What
29 Easier access to Oo'glog from the Red sandstone rock.
50 Easier access to the Queen Black Dragon.
70 Access to Commander Zilyana.
71 Access to the highest floor of the Slayer Tower.
85 Best time to start the Double Surge codex grind. Here's a guide.
86 Quicker travel in Kuradal's Dungeon.
90 Access to Waterfall fishing.
90 Quicker travel in Kuradal's Dungeon.
92 Easy access from the Port Phasmatys bank to the Araxyte hive.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • Whenever you are training agility, you will sometimes get called by a Talent scout to participate in The Pit. This awards Nimble outfit pieces at a 1/3 rate upon receiving xp from the minigame. Always do this minigame and always gamble the xp whenever you win.
  • Boots of lightness, Wicked robes, the Trahaearn exoskeleton set and a Spottier cape will reduce your weight, which will make you more likely to succeed on obstacles (weight below 0 does not add additional chance to be successful).
  • When pickpocketing Hefin workers you will sometimes get agility potions or a Summer pie. These can boost your agility by 3 and 5 levels respectively.
  • Stamina potions Raise your agility by 6 and give you infinite run energy for 6 minutes. Orge flasks filled with salt water can do the same.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

See Agility training, nothing is unique for ironmen. Note that it's possible to do the Hefin course without moving your mouse, just repeatedly clicking in 1 spot.

Archaeology [edit | edit source]

Rob some graves, get some relics.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Note that you can boost for every reward except ancient gizmos.

Level What
56 Berserker's Fury relic power. Free dps, even if you don't pay attention to lp.
68 Nexus Mod relic power. Amazing for getting the large rune pouch.
68 Ancient summoning. Really good familiars, waterfiend is best familiar for fishing and archaeology, gargoyle for mining with less than 1 ore per hit (use waterfiend if you get 1 ore per hit), ripper demon for combat.
81 Pharm Ecology relic power. Pretty big increase on farming returns.
83 Luck of the Dwarves relic power. Useful for skilling with the Ring of Whispers.
83 Always Adze relic power. Allows you to do superheat form firemaking training without superheat form.
95 Ancient invention. The gizmos all give best in slot perks and the xp capacitor can help with leveling items to 9 for components.
97 Fury of the Small relic power. Best in slot combat relic.
98 Divine Conversion relic power. Makes gathering divination energy and charges much faster.
119 Slayer Introspection relic power. Helps with getting rare slayer drops.

How to train the skill [edit | edit source]

  • Your highest level spot will almost always give the most experience.
  • Work on collections. You need a specific number for the qualifications and the chronotes buy good upgrades.
  • You don't have to work on collections you complete right now. Ideally, work on the collection that gives tetracompass pieces/batteries and has your highest spot in it, even if you can't complete it right now.
  • Avoid material caches if the hotspot you're working for artefacts gives the materials you need. It's fine to end up with more artefacts than materials, as it's better experience this way.
  • Tetracompass collections give the most xp, followed by pylon battery collections. Avoid completing collections that give neither more than once (for qualifications).
  • Try to solve mysteries as soon as you can.
  • From level 107 onwards, it's advised to train at the spots inside the War table to get inquisitor staff pieces until you have a full staff.
  • From level 115 onwards, it's advised to train at Bandos sanctum debris for the spear of annihilation tip until you have it.

What upgrades to buy [edit | edit source]

40 - Assistant [edit | edit source]

  1. Soil box upgrade.
  2. Mattock precision.

Leave the material storage (for now).

70 - Associate [edit | edit source]

  1. If you're (near) 67 invention, buy the auto-screener, otherwise buy the soil box upgrade.
  2. The experience outfit.
  3. Mattock precision.

76 - 26th type of material unlocked [edit | edit source]

  1. Assistant material storage upgrade.

81 - 31st type of material unlocked [edit | edit source]

  1. Associate material storage upgrade.

90 - Professor & 36th type of material unlocked [edit | edit source]

  1. Professor material storage upgrade.
  2. Mattock precision upgrade.
  3. If you do not have 67 invention, but bank less than once per hour, the soil box upgrade helps.

99 - Guildmaster [edit | edit source]

  1. Elite skilling outfit. This is the most important upgrade for ironmen and gives some nice teleports.
  2. Energised meteorite shard for mattock of time and space. It primarily boosts invention xp and somewhat boosts arch xp, the increase in focus makes for a very small difference in materials.
  3. Mattock precision upgrade, although it's a very small boost.

99+ buying temporary boosts [edit | edit source]

It's not advised to buy these before getting the elite skilling outfit, as it increases their active time from 20 to 30 minutes.

  • Material manuals boost xp and the chance of receiving the spear tip/staff pieces every hour. If you're going for either or both items, it's advised to save them until the 115 and 118 spots, since those give the best chance.
  • Archaeologist's tea boost xp significantly. If you're racing for xp, these are a good investment.

The other 2 boosts do not give significant enough buffs to buy. If you get them from tetracompasses, feel free to use them when you want them.

Relic Combinations [edit | edit source]

Here's a couple good relic combinations. Due to the high chronote cost swapping these often early on is not advised. Once you're level 118 Museum - Zarosian IV provides the best collections for chronotes, allowing for a little over 10k chronotes/hour. Red Rum Relics III provides the best combination of experience and chronotes.

  • Berserker's Fury + Fury of the Small + Divine Conversion if you pvm semi-regularly. Fury + fury is best in slot for pvm, while divine conversion helps with gathering charges.
  • Swap out Divine Conversion with Bait and Switch if you plan on fishing 2 or more hours in a row. If you're fishing for cooking xp, it's better to not have it, but it's great for fishing sailfish, blue blubbers or swarm for pvm.
  • Slayer Introspection + Fury of the Small + Divine Conversion if you're going for a rare slayer drop. Fury of the small can help a lot, and it's rare to lose a lot of hitpoints on slayer tasks.
  • Luck of the Dwarves + Pharm Ecology + Divine Conversion if you do not pvm but do regular farm runs. Allows you to wear a ring of whispers while doing farm runs for increased yield while getting the best loot from Seren spirits.
  • Luck of the Dwarves + Divine Conversion for regular skilling if you don't do pvm. The ring of whispers helps with archaeology, divination, farming, fishing, mining and woodcutting.
  • Swap out fury of the small (in the pvm/slayer setup) or divine conversion (in the farming setup) for Nexus Mod if you are going for rune pouches (or just runecrafting xp). Pouch protector is not worth the 4,000 chronotes to swap in and out since you can easily buy unstable air runes from the traveling merchant for massive pouches.
  • Swap out divine conversion for Always Adze if you're going for firemaking experience and don't have superheat form.
  • The xp relics are overly expensive and only worth using if you're going for 120/200m in a skill over a short period of time.

Construction [edit | edit source]

Construction is mostly useless at high level, but offers some okay stuff still.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What
20 Make the small Player-owned farm pen.
27 Make hidey holes for easy clue scrolls.
37 Pet feeder for feeding your pets.
40 Make the medium Player-owned farm pen.
42 Make hidey holes for medium clue scrolls.
55 Armour stand for repairing armor.
55 Make hidey holes for hard clue scrolls.
57 Teak eagle lectern for making Sophanem Slayer Dungeon teleport.
60 Make the large Player-owned farm pen.
63 Access to the Aquarium and various fishing boosts.
67 Mahogany eagle lectern for making all teleport tablets you can modify with Dave's spellbook, which are very useful for clue scrolls.
72 Get the weekly planks from your aquarium with the Mermaid hunter suit.
80 Get the weekly elite clue from your aquarium with Salvage hunter suit.
82 Mahogany armour case for storing some armor sets.
84 Required to get the best pigs.
88 Make hidey holes for master clue scrolls.
90 Marble cape rack for storing some capes.
96 Marble magic wardrobe for storing some magic armor sets.

Remember you can access your Costume room from your bank!

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The Sculpting chisel gives 1% extra xp but occupies both hands.
  • The Constructor's outfit from Temple Trekking gives 6% extra xp.
  • The Monkey mind-control helmet from invention provides a free butler.
  • The Scroll of proficiency saves a bunch of planks.
  • The Flatpack depacker helps when making flatpacks for dailies (note) or training (disassemble).
  • A cup of tea provides a +1-+3 bonus if it's brewed in your own house.
  • The Crystal saw gives a hidden +3 boost to any item made with a saw, stacking with tea.
  • The Crystal saw (Prifddinas) gives a hidden +5 boost instead, but is a lot harder to get and needs to be equipped.

Where to get materials [edit | edit source]

  • Bandit Duty Free sells gold leaves and marble blocks at a reduced price, but you need to be skulled and enter the wilderness.
  • Planks are a pain to get and are not super useful for high level training. You still need a few. Either chop your own trees, buy them from Razmire Builders' Merchants in Mort'ton or pick them up.
  • Nails need to be smithed yourself. Just mine and smith whatever bar is convenient, although Bronze nails are fastest.
  • Oak logs/oak planks provide a low level material that's not as painful to get as regular planks. Sadly, there's no better way to get them than cutting oak trees.
  • Teak logs/teak planks are your main material until you can make the Plank maker. The best way to obtain them is Managing Miscellania or cutting them on Ape Atoll after unlocking the bank deposit box after Deadliest catch or with porters in the Karamja hardwood grove.
  • Mahogany logs/mahogany planks are your main material after unlocking the Plank maker. While cutting them yourself is much less efficient than cutting your own teaks, they are the best option for Managing Miscellania.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

See Construction training. Do regular and oak stuff until you can make teak things until you get the plank maker, then finally switch to mahogany furniture.

Cooking [edit | edit source]

Cook stuff.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What
52 Cook Desert sole.
60 Cook Catfish.
72 Cook Beltfish.
80 Cook Shark.
84 Cook Great white shark.
93 Cook Rocktail
94 Stop burning sharks and rocktails with Cooking gauntlets.
97 Cook Sailfish, the best healing fish in the game.
99 Get the cooking cape, which will make you never burn anything if you wear it.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The Sous chef's outfit gives 6% bonus xp, obtained by doing Gnome Restaurant. This is a good guide to get it.
    • After obtaining the outfit, continue doing the minigame to get the add-on that gives you 5% extra cooked food!
  • Cooking urns are made with crafting and can provide a lot of extra xp, especially with an Urn enhancer.
  • The Dwarven army axe gives 3 extra xp on every cooked item.
  • Chef's delight gives a +1-5 boost depending on level, but you must brew it yourself.

Where to get materials [edit | edit source]

  • raw sharks are obtained from bosses in The Heart and Temple Trekking. Most other fish are best fished yourself. However,
  • The Gorajo resource dungeon randomly spawns bubbles where you easily can catch daily sharks or rocktail. These provide a very nice source of food and cooking xp if you do them every day.
  • Swarm fishing will give you a nice selection of high level fish.
  • Sailfish are actually pretty fast and afk to fish yourself. You get them faster than from swarm fishing, but swarm fishing also provides blue blubbers and is more afk.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

Cook the fish you get from fishing. Don't drop your fish if you can avoid it. If you are still short, use Managing Miscellania to help you get extra raw fish. The best places to train cooking (in order of usefulness) are Catherby, the Menaphos bonfire, the Land of Snow bonfire, the Prifddinas bonfire, the range in the cooking guild next to the bank and the bonfire in the max guild. For arc food use the range on Waiko since it gives 5% extra oil and soup.

Cheesing it [edit | edit source]

Making Cream cheese, as explained in this video, can give up to 200k xp/hour if you have 71 farming, 60 construction and 32 cooking. This is worse than using up Menaphos fish but requires no resources and is better than using up tuna.

Crafting [edit | edit source]

All of the gems. All of them.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Crafting is broadly useful thanks to jewellery and Urns. Here's some highlights:

Level What
55 Ring of Wealth
72 Ring of Fortune
89 Potion flask and Crystal flask
90 Reaper necklace
90 Noxious weapons
93 Sirenic armour
99 Amulet of souls

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The Artisan's outfit is obtained from Stealing Creation, which you can best get points for by buying them from the Travelling merchant.
    • The Modified artisan's bandana, the sixth and final piece of the outfit, can save you some leather.
  • The Gem bag and Gem bag (upgraded) can store your gems after mining them.
  • The Scroll of dexterity saves some more hides.
  • The Crystal chisel will give you extra gems when cutting.
  • You can make your own crafting potions with herblore for a consistent +3 boost.

Where to get materials [edit | edit source]

  • Most gems are best obtained from their own rocks (look at their hp to figure which ones are the best per gem) or just geodes you get from mining.
    • Getting your first Uncut onyx can be somewhat of a challenge. If you don't want to do combat, the Gullible tourist can give them. However, the best way to get one is through combat: the Fight kiln can give a guaranteed one on completion instead of a cape, Araxxi provides boatloads and Kal'gerion demons give a nice number of them as well. If you are not high enough level yet to do kiln, you can probably get by with a Ring of Wealth (which provides benefits for most monsters, including slayer monsters up to level 80 and GWD generals).
  • Soft clay is best obtained by mining with a Bracelet of clay or mining the soft clay in the Ithell district in Prifddinas, also with a bracelet of clay. During Ithell hour, half of your soft clay will be banked, without using a porter charge if you're using porters.
  • Gold ore is best mined in the living rock caverns (once you reach 80) or the dwarven mine hidden mine (15 dg dungeon). Use your ore box on the deposit box to store your mined ore.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

The best place to make jewellery is in Edgeville.

DG craft [edit | edit source]

This (in)famous method of training the skill is the most efficient way to train crafting but also a massive pain. Here's a guide if you want to try your hand at it. Note that autohotkey is illegal now, but hides stack at least.

1-40 [edit | edit source]

The start of crafting can be annoying because you can't store gold or silver in your ore box or metal bank. You can choose to spin some flax (probably until you're about level 20), or mine the common (until you're 20 crafting) and Uncommon gem rock (starting at 20 crafting) in the Al Kharid mine for gems to cut. 1-20 will take you about 300 bowstrings. 20-40 will take you about 650 sapphires, although you will also get emeralds and rubies to decrease the time. thanks to u/Mortichar for telling me about this method.

40-75/99 (best xp/hour) [edit | edit source]

Continue mining uncommon gems and cutting them. It's adviced to get a gem bag upgrade & 60 mining so you can get gems every swing by clicking every 4 ticks, or even higher mining so you can afk a gem every 4 tick. You will need between 23 thousand sapphires and 14 thousand rubies to get to 75 from 40.

40-75 (best gp) [edit | edit source]

Now that you can do Family Crest, you should do it so you can store gold and silver in your metal bank, ore box and get Smelting guantlets. Until you're 75, make jewellery. The best jewellery to make is bracelets for the money (and xp) or necklaces to turn into porters. You will need to make between 7 and 11 thousand bracelets or about 5% more necklaces, including the xp to cut the gems.

75-99 [edit | edit source]

For the rest of the skill you will just want to afk at harps. You don't need to tune the harp to get more xp, but once it reaches 100% out of tune you will automatically stop playing. Gems are faster xp/hour especially with high mining but less afk.

84-99 [edit | edit source]

You can choose to make Urns in the Ithell district. While not being good xp/hour you will use the urns for other skills. Making urns you end up using is more efficient than any other method: if you make 500 hunter urns in an hour, for example, you end up getting 1,000k hunter xp in addition to around 50k crafting xp per hour.

Divination [edit | edit source]

Divination ends up being an important skill for invention as it is the primary way to get divine charges.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What
6, 28, 48, 68, 88, 99 Make signs of the porter. Since you gather energies faster at higher levels (and diamonds end up being really common in late game), the best porter to make yourself is just your highest tier.
80 Combined with pickpocketing Amlodd workers you can now prestige in the Memorial to Guthix. The best perks from this are (in order of how good they are) Ethereal Connection, Wisp Herder (if you do not have the Divine-o-matic vacuum), Harmony of Naragun or Abyssal Transit (depending on preference), Decree of Mortality/Guardian of Life/Sempiternal Souvenirs (depending on what skill you use the most).
82 The Divine herb patch III is the best use of your daily divine location limit until you get access to the Gorajo resource dungeon.
99 Portent of life frees up the pocket or cape slot.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The Diviner's outfit is a reward from cache that increases your xp.
    • The Elder divination outfit can be made with 80 divination and 20 invention. Cache and corehunting give (almost) no fragments, so the best way to get them is just to gather your energy to charge your weapons or doing divination on the arc.
  • The Divine-o-matic vacuum helps you with gathering divine charges, but is always lost in the wilderness.
  • The Superior energy-gathering scrimshaw is a ports reward that only costs 2 bones to make for 4 hours and can increase your energy/hour by a significant amount.
  • The nightmare muspah is a good friend that increases your energy/hour even when using the vacuum and can help when gathering memories.
  • Enrichment auras help your energy and xp per hour gathering energy.
  • Divination urns help your xp/hour when training, including hall of memories.
  • Boons are made with divine energy and you shouldn't forget to make one when you get to a new tier of energy.

Where to get materials [edit | edit source]

  • The best way to get porters is not to make them yourself. Rather, enable the perks from memorial that allow you to get memory shards and use those to craft porters (as well as portents and signs of life).
  • To get divine charges your easiest option is to do cursed energy. Rather than converting the memories, you can lure the banker, as explained in this reddit thread, to bank the cursed memories and convert them later. The rift closest to a bank is the one in draynor. If you die to a pker, you will lose your remaining aura time if you had it active.
  • The safer route is to get them from your highest tier memory, preferably by using a vacuum and the other boosts described above.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

See Divination training. Note that 'corehunting' fc is the best way to do hall of memories.

Useful dailies [edit | edit source]

Guthixian Cache is the primary way most people train to 70 or even 99.

Dungeoneering [edit | edit source]

Dungeoneering as a skill is mostly about getting the rewards with tokens.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Resource dungeons [edit | edit source]

I'll list the important features of each resource dungeon here:

Level Location Features
15 Dwarven Mine hidden mine Bank deposit box (use ore box on bank box to deposit ores), phasmatite rocks with Daemonheim aura 3.
45 Mining Guild resource dungeon Best place to mine drakolith rocks and luminite rocks.
55 Taverley hellhound resource dungeon Best place to grind hard clues.
90 Kal'gerion resource dungeon Good slayer task that drops a master clue item.
95 Gorajo resource dungeon Free dg card. Best place to fish sharks and rocktail for eating.
100 Morytania slayer tower dungeon Good place to kill dark beasts with a cannon and abby demons if you're doing the Sumona method for getting khopeshes.
115 Edimmu resource dungeon Motherlode Maw.

Don't forget to enter each dungeon once to get free xp.

Shop rewards [edit | edit source]

Before buying anything with tokens, consider spending 323k tokens on getting a class to level 10 for the elite area achievement. You can refund those tokens for free after spending them by clicking reset (subsequent resets costs 50k tokens)! Almost every dungeoneering reward is worth getting, so similar to auras I'll rank them from A to D and F for rewards I think are not worth it.

Item Cost Level Rank Notes
Chaotic splint 150k 1 B Not worth getting until you obtain an Ancient emblem from Nex. However, these defenders are significantly easier to obtain than the tier 90 ones, and you need at least 1 of them to get a chance of getting a tier 90 one anyway..
Deamonheim skill door boost 600k 1 D Useful for completing dungeons, and in combination with the outfit can allow you to open every door in a dungeon (some puzzle rooms might still have requirements you cannot satisfy). However, the cost is incredibly high.
Demon slayer sigil blueprint 100k 1 F The cost to complete a sigil is too high, and it's not really worth using anywhere. Your hearts are better spent on the other 2 sigils.
Dragon slayer sigil blueprint 100k 1 C The only place this will end up being useful is Dragonkin Laboratory, but I guess it's strong there if you're grinding the melee codecis.
Enchanted notepaper blueprint 200k 1 C The notepaper is not super useful, but Nex specifically, who drops a lot of not noted potions, this can come in nice.
Elite Dungeoneering outfit blueprint 200k 1 (70 to get fragments, 80 to make pieces) A A very strong outfit that gives a discount to other purchases. The outfit cannot be made until you unlock invention.
Hoardstalker ring recharge 10k 1 F The ring is super annoying to get on ironman (requires you to complete all of the exile's content in ports) and provides the same features as the dg cape.
Random Meilyr potion recipe 500k 1 F Just get a Yak card for free from the gorajo resource dungeon every 15 days (on average).
Recipe: Black stone arrows 350k 1 B If you have a nox bow these arrows are incredibly strong at Nex or group bosses where you don't have 100% accuracy. The arrow tips are annoying to get though.
Ring of kinship reset 50k 1 F Only get if you accidentally spent more than 50k tokens in a class you don't want to use at all forever. Alternatively, just do some token farming and get the tokens back that way.
Scrimshaw of aggresion+ scroll 250k 1 F Allows you to upgrade them in ports, but they end up being such a pain to gather (mimic drops them) and are useful in very few situations since they only attract 1 mob at a time.
Scrimshaw of corruption+ scroll 250k 1 C A powerful scrimshaw for getting xp, although annoying to get.
Scrimshaw of sacrifice+ scroll 250k 1 C A powerful scrimshaw for getting xp, although annoying to get.
Scroll of gathering 80k 1 D The effect is too minor for this to be worth it unless you're doing dgcraft.
Skip any floor varies 1 (floor must be unlocked) F Since we don't have access to groups, this is not worth it for us. Just C6 rush the floors you don't want to get max xp from.
Undead slayer sigil blueprint 100k 1 C The most powerful of the 3 sigils since it works on Barrows: Rise of the Six.
Wild card 20k 1 F We can't even enter sinkholes lol.
Bonecrusher 34k 21 A Buries bones for you.
Charming imp 100k 21 A Picks up your charms and stuffs them into your inventory, or destroys them if you want to.
Herbicide 34k 21 C Nice early game but quickly becomes useless as you reach higher level monsters who drop noted herbs.
Gem bag 2k 25 A Nice when mining gems or on tasks that drop gems.
Scroll of life 10k 25 A The 10% ends up being significantly useful when farming herbs.
Arcane pulse necklace/Brawler's jab necklace/Farsight quick shot necklace 6.5k 30 F Stats are way too low.
Twisted bird skull necklace 8.5k 30 F While nice early game, the next necklace is just better and comes pretty quick.
Smithing autoheater 4k 35 B Allows you to do afk smithing easier. If you're old, you'll probably have loads of coal banked and nothing to do with it. However, it's not worth mining coal for this thing unless you have access to Concentrated coal.
Gem bag (upgraded) 20k 40 A Nice at abby demons, increased capacity.
Gravite equipment 40k/20k 45 F lmao gravite in p2p.
Law staff 10k 45 F Use an air staff to save the same number of inventory spaces. Use an Elemental battlestaff to save more inventory spaces.
Shieldbow sight 10k 45 F Shieldbows are trash.
Amulet of zealots 40k 48 A Best in slot whenever you have 100% accuracy without prayer and don't need the extra defense, makes Leech strength the most powerful in those cases. Extremely useful on most slayer tasks.
Tome of frost 43k 48 F Was useful when staves were 1-handed and when desert heat was a problem. Do Crocodile Tears to ignore heat forever.
Scroll of cleansing 20k 49 A Super useful when making potions.
Spirit cape 45k 50 A Other capes are more useful, but this functions as a scroll and unlocks the ability permantly. Not great early game but very useful if you use a titan or smoke devil.
Nature staff 12.5k 52 F Fire staff.
Arcane blast necklace/Farsight snap shot necklace/Brawler's hook necklace 15.5k 55 F Just get a better necklace.
Scroll of efficiency 20k 55 A Can really help with training smithing.
Advanced gold accumulator 1500k 60 C Nice to put on your toolbelt. Otherwise, just pick up gold yourself so you don't lose 10% or use the regular accumulator.
Anti-poison totem 44k 60 F Use Venomblood or just take an Anti-poison.
Gold accumulator/Gold accumulator overcharge 20k (first) 40k (second) 60k (after second) 250k (overcharge) 60 D For the super lazy who have points to spare.
Scroll of dexterity 20k 60 B Nice if you're using hides, but not used in primary crafting.
Scroll of quick teleportation 50k 60 A Home teleports in dg are quick and can be used anytime you're not being attacked. Practically places a gatestone in your home room in dg.
Scroll of proficiency 20k 60 A Extremely useful when training construction.
Split dragontooth necklace 17.5k 60 B Nice on slayer tasks on the 60-89 prayer range, but obviously not worth getting at 90 prayer.
Ring of vigour 50k 62 A Ultra useful ring.
Scroll of renewal 38k 65 B Not worth getting on its own but a hard task requirement.
Scroll of Daemonheim 30k 70 C The xp is really low but if you can spare the 30k tokens it's free dg xp.
Mercenary's gloves 48.5k 73 F Did you remember this exists?
Chaotic staff 200k 80 B While not necessary, it's really easy to grind for this and get yourself into t80+ beastmaster durzag raids.
Other Chaotic weapons 100k (offhand) 200k (main hand) 80 D You can get some use out of these but for various reasons Sunspear ends up being more useful mostly. The crossbow can fire dragonbane so it got that going for it.
Chaotic remnant 100k 80 D Other necklaces will always be more useful (zealots, souls, reaper) but required for making a t92 magic body.
Chaotic spike 20k 80 D The spear and claws are pointless (Mizuyari for corp) but required to make a t92 ranged body.
Dungeoneering shields 200k 80 F Overpriced for their use as a resonance shield. Use a gwd1 shield, (attuned) crystal shield, rise of the six shield or elder rune shield instead.
Demon horn necklace 35k 90 A High requirement, but is nice to use if you're cheap and want to save prayer potions.

I haven't put in cosmetics and pets or consumables. The only lucky charms worth it are either the shadow reef ones (for the arrows and hearts) or the aminishi ones (if you're doing token farming anyway). The cards are too expensive. The trinkets are too expensive. The other stuff is kinda expensive but might be worth getting if you don't want any other more permanent rewards.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • You can (re)claim the Ring of kinship by using the boat south of the Taverley lodestone.
  • The Gorajan trailblazer outfits are very useful but can take a while to get. The best way to farm fragments is to do token farming since it gives good fragments and tokens. If you really want the outfit, you can c1 rush a lot of floors.
  • Daemonheim aura 4 allows for a second gatestone. The tasks are useful in general.
  • Perfect plus or juju dungeoneering potions give some bonuses.
  • Remember to take your Dungeoneering skillcape into Daemonheim if you have it.

Where to get tokens [edit | edit source]

The best way to get tokens is to do token farming in Temple of Aminishi. Here's a low level guide and a high level guide. I recommend getting at least vanquish and 75 magic before beginning, but some people start with god staves.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

See P2p dungeoneering training. Generally speaking, it is the best to do 1-29 on c6 small and the rest on c6 medium/large. The xp is fairly similar, so if you really want to, you can do large, medium or small floors all the way. Due to the extremely low xp, c1 rushes are not worth it since we only have access to solo.

Your bind setup depends on your highest combat skill between mage and range. Whichever style has access to higher tier weapons should be used. However, because many bosses require it & high level monsters are highly affected by weakness, It is strongly recommended to bind both a range and mage weapon. For your other bind slots, bind (in this order) a shadow silk hood (if you're below 80 defense), dual wield melee (if you have bladed dive), blood necklace (additional damage), defender/shield (for stalling defensives) or mage/range body. Before the evolution of combat, the shadow silk hood was very strong, but these days it's not that good with high defense. For the ring of kinship I recommend using desperado (increased range damage) as your primary, Sniper for your secondary and blitzer for your quick-switch. If you're dg crafting, set gatherer as your quick switch and switch to artisan manually once you start crafting.

Large vs medium vs small [edit | edit source]

When picking what floor size to do, it is important to test yourself a little first. Depending on the speed you can complete a floor at, you can decide what size floor to complete. Each size up increases your xp by roughly 130% or a 2.3x multiplier. So if you complete a medium floor in 10 minutes and a large floor in 21 minutes, you will want to do as many large floors as possible. However, due to xp scaling as you go up the floors, it's still smart to do a mix of all 3 types. A simple guideline is to do half small, a quarter medium and a quarter large. You can change this to your own preference.

Useful dailies [edit | edit source]

Dungeoneering dailies are good xp, but have been nerfed at high level :(

Farming [edit | edit source]

Farming used to be a pain. Now we have animal farming and all is good and right.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Not that many strong rewards, surprisingly the primary feature of farming is growing your own stuff.

Level What
57 Farm your own bloodweed, since you cannot get them through combat.
74 Farm your own morchella mushrooms, since very few monsters drop them.
81 Access to Extreme invention potion, which allow you to unlock blueprints and make stuff at higher level and provide better chance at rare perks like scavenging 3 or precise 4 equilibrium 2 (it does not allow for otherwise impossible perks like precise 5 equilibrium 2).
91 Farm your own fellstalks, since you cannot get them through combat.
116 (Boostable) get the maximum number of primal essence per run.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The Farmer's outfit is a reward from cabbage facepunch (guide here) and provides 6% extra xp.
    • The Modified farmer's hat is the final unlock and saves 2% of seeds as well as giving 3 daily teleports to the Morytania herb and allotment patch.
  • The Elite farming outfit is unlocked by buying the blueprint with beans. The best way to get fragments is farming mushrooms on the arc, preferably on your own islands. If you're not 90 farming, you can also turn compost on the Ardougne farm. It's afk but gives like no xp.
  • Urns of the farming variety exist and can speed the skill along. Don't forget your Urn enhancer if you have it.
  • The Scroll of life saves some more seeds!
  • Juju farming potions are extremely potent and give many extra herbs. Note that perfect farming potions do not give the same benefits.
  • Greenfinger aura and its upgrades give some extra herbs.
  • Pork pie is a consistent +5 boost.

Farm run setup [edit | edit source]

This is my setup for farm runs. I do it as follows:

  1. Switch to lunar spellbook if you have the trollheim herb patch teleport unlocked. Bank the magic cape and take 6 seeds of your desired type.
  2. Go to Morytania mushroom patch with fairy ring (use canifis lode if you don't have fairy rings or yanille lode if you don't want to use portable fairy rings). Pick and plant the mushrooms. Note the mushrooms by using them on the leprechaun after every harvest.
  3. Give the 2 supercompost to the Tool leprechaun for automatic composting and make sure every type is paid for. Use 8 if you don't have ultracompost. If you don't want to use the automatic composting, take 8 noted supercompost instead.
  4. Use the nearby fairy ring to go to the kalphite hive and pick up potato cacti from the Odd old man.
  5. Use the quiver to teleport to the Tiranwnn mushroom patch (use the lodestone intead if you only completed the second diary). Harvest the mushrooms, (unnote the compost now, don't forget to compost after planting every seed) plant a new seed and give the 6 ultracompost to the leprechaun.
  6. Teleport to the trollheim patch, either directly or using the spell unlocked after Edgar's Ruse. Activate greenfingers aura once you arrive at the patch and drink the juju potion. You're on the clock now. Harvest the herbs and plant a new seed.
  7. (If you have a Herblore habitat herb seed, take it, 1 additional ultracompost/supercompost and either the mask or the bag in your inventory as well. Teleport to the habitat and do your herbs. While there, pick papayas if you have them planted.)
  8. Cabbage-port to the Falador patch and do your stuff.
  9. Teleport to the manor farm using the elite hat, Ardounge cloak 4 (or Ardounge cloak 3) or lodestone and do your thing.
  10. Teleport to the Morytania patch using the elite hat, Modified farmer's hat or Ectophial.
  11. Use the Modified botanist's mask or Catherby lodestone to teleport to the herb patch there and do your thing. Skip the next step if you don't have access to priff.
  12. Use the Attuned crystal teleport seed or Prifddinas lodestone to go to the herb patch and do the thing. If you have some whiteberries or poison ivy berries planted harvest them too.
  13. Use the nearby bank to deposit your entire inventory and all equipment except the elite outfit, sword and cape. Withdraw 1 bloodweed seed (also 1 supercompost if you want to).
  14. Teleport to the wilderness patch using the sword and harvest & plant as usual.
  15. Escape the wilderness with the nearby obelisk and your trusty sword.

Where to get materials [edit | edit source]

  • Supercompost is best stolen from elves or made yourself with pineapples from Arhein.
  • To feed your animals, use the following items:
    • Rabbits, chinchompas, sheep, cows and yak eat woad leaves, you can buy-X from Wyson the gardener.
    • Chickens and spiders can eat cheap seeds from Olivia.
    • Zygomites need mushrooms, easiest obtained by taking a Silver sickle (b) and growing them yourself with a prayer renewal in the Morytania swamp.
    • Dragons only eat meat and fish. You can buy 6 meat packs from Oo'glog daily after As a First Resort. Raw tuna and swordfish from kingdom is also an excellent source of dragon food.
    • Dinos eat only meat. Use the meat packs from Oo'glog.
  • There's a long list of seeds, so I'll just note the higher herb seeds, since you'll end up mainly using those:
    • Marrentill seed comes from vinesweeper, or pickpocketing master farmers before lost her marbles.
    • Harralander seed comes from pickpocketing master farmer.
    • Ranarr seed comes from Commander Zilyana or master farmer pickpocketing.
    • Spirit weed seed comes from Banshee or Luminous snaggler.
    • Toadflax seed comes from sunspear vyres or lighthouse dagannoth.
    • Irit seed comes from sunspear vyres or lighthouse dagannoth.
    • Avantoe seed comes from Automaton or lighthouse dagannoth.
    • Kwuarm seed comes from Automaton tracer or sunspear vyres or lighthouse dagannoth.
    • Bloodweed seed has to be bought in Bandit Duty Free, remember to skull beforehand!
    • Snapdragon seed comes from Queen Black Dragon or General Graardor.
    • Cadantine seed comes from Kal'gerion demon or lighthouse dagannoth.
    • Lantadyme seed comes from the crystal chest or sunspear vyres or lighthouse dagannoth.
    • Arbuck seed comes from Big game hunter or Dinosaurs and Vile blooms
    • Dwarf weed seed comes from Araxxi or sunspear vyres.
    • Torstol seed comes from the crystal chest, Nex or Kalphite King.
    • Fellstalk seed comes from Dark beast, Aquanite or Aberrant spectre.
  • Seeds for primal extract come mainly from Big game hunter and clue scrolls, although some come from other sources.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

Level 1-17 is best done with allotment farming. After that, do Player owned farm until you're 120 (here's a guide by another ironmeme). Since you only need to get each animal twice (one male and one female), here's a table of how to get them. Warning: you can only get animals after completing the tutorial on the farm.

Animal Level Pen Where to get them Notes
Rabbits 17 Small Hill south of Fremennik lodestone Common rabbits cannot produce Rabbit teeth, you have to kill rabbits in the Fremennik province for that. Simply put on an air battlestaff and go to town with area of effect abilities preferred.
Chickens 28 Small Buy them from the market Rooster perk is pretty good.
Sheep 35 Medium Buy them from the market None
Frogs 42 Small (ROoT) Buy them from the market Too hard to feed for xp. However, by not feeding them while continuing to buy them you spend a few beans for a lot of Poison slime.
Cows 49 Large Buy them from the market Bull perk is pretty good when you're making ultracompost.
Chinchompas 54 Small Hunt them Best place to hunt them is skillchompas. 1/1.5k per trap, good luck.
Spiders 64 Medium Corpse spiders in Lumbridge catacombs Same setup as rabbits. They use range so you can use an aggro pot if you want to. Perk increases damage vs Araxxor.
Yaks 71 Large Killing yak or making Pack yak pouches Train summoning or go into the pen on Neitiznot with magic area of effect abilites, air runes and a high level staff (yaks have relatively high hp compared to tiny rabbits or spiders). Either use an aggro potion or a cannon if you want to. 1/3k drop rate
Jadinko 76 Medium (ROoT) Hunt them on Anachronia Perk is pretty minor, might help on farm runs.
Zygomites 81 Medium Farm morchella mushrooms (1/50 per mushroom or per pair of mushrooms after elite Morytania area achievements) or do arc mushrooms (1/400 on uncharted islands) In order to get webbing for the invention potions, you must wait for a baby to mutate into a different breed. Once you have 1 of a different breed, you can start replacing all your gloomshrooms with better ones.
Dragons 92 Large Killing dragons (1/2k for black, 1/200 for Queen Black Dragon) Either kill blue dragons in the Taverley blue dragon resource dungeon with an aggro pot or kill the qbd.
Varanusaur 97 Medium (ROoT) Killing dinos/random hunter egg Perk is good when making Weapon poison++ and Weapon poison+++.
Brutish dinos 100 Large (ROoT) Killing dinos/random hunter egg Perk can be good early on, but pretty meh.
Salamanders 102 Small (ROoT) Buy them from market Perk is trash lol
BGH Dinos 97-118 Large (ROoT) Big game hunter/random egg bought with hunter's marks Some good perks. Good xp. Get 2 of every type for perk, you should have a breeding pair for each unique resource at that point. Unless going for breeding log/trim you will not need a breeding pair of every type, just 1 breeding pair of rex, saur and tops.

If you have 2 animals of the same gender, you can put them in the breeding pen together and wait for them to adopt. This can take a long time, but at least it's afk. Additionally, send out the trapper every time you can for a chance at any animal from the original player-owned farm.

Beehives [edit | edit source]

As soon as you unlock player-owned farms, you get acces to beehives. Filling those with woad leaves gives very high xp every day on top of your animals. It's adviced to keep doing this until you have chinchompas or other high level animals.

primal fruit runs (99-120) [edit | edit source]

See the section below, giving up to 90k farming xp per run.

Useful dailies [edit | edit source]

Nemi forest. Also the whole skill itself is like a big daily.

Useful monthlies [edit | edit source]

The Giant oyster after Beneath Cursed Tides gives a bunch of farming xp. Don't forget to boost.

Firemaking [edit | edit source]

Someone tell me what incense is good

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Higher level = higher life point boost I guess.

Level What
30 Toadflax incense sticks for agility.
40 Irit incense sticks for enemies that poison you.
41 Wergali incense sticks for fletching.
48 Avantoe incense sticks for hunting grenwalls.
54 Kwuarm incense sticks for when using weapon poison.
59 Snapdragon incense sticks for when fighting magister.
67 Lantadyme incense sticks for saving overloads, aggro potions and other potions.
70 Dwarf weed incense sticks for free porters that don't take up inventory space.
71 2 incense.
91 Fellstalk incense sticks for killing Edimmu and Soulgazer.
95 3 incense.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The Ring of fire and Flame gloves give 5% extra xp together (2% if you wear one of the two).
  • A Pyro-matic is the invention item for firemaking. Useful perks are Pyromaniac (preferably explosive components, but light components can work too) and Rapid (enhancing components, shifting components are very annoying).
  • The Crystal tinderbox helps if you're using a bonfire. It can be augmented so you no longer have to keep remaking it.
  • A Reborn phoenix can help you if you're training using bonfires.

Where to get materials [edit | edit source]

  • Magic logs drop in large quantities from gwd2 bosses and araxxor.
  • Sacred oil comes from Shades of Mort'ton (minigame), sometimes people play on weekend in the official world or you can use a Flamtaer bracelet and Shade luring dummy to solo the minigame.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

1-45 [edit | edit source]

Use your logs from woodcutting.

45-75/83/99 [edit | edit source]

Use maples from kingdom.

75-83/99 [edit | edit source]

Use magic logs from gwd2. Alternatively, keep using maple logs until 83/99.

83-99 [edit | edit source]

Curly roots with superheat form.

Fishing [edit | edit source]

Fish fish for xp and food. Make sure not to drop too much of your fish or you'll lose out on good cooking xp.

For a more up to date version, see Ironman Mode/Strategies/Fishing.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What
68 Access to Deep sea fishing including the Travelling merchant and Swarm (fishing spot).
91 Fish your own blue blubbers. Fishing them on their own spot increases your blubbers/hour but swarm fishing will also provide other useful fish.
97 Fish your own sailfish.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The Fishing outfit should be easy to obtain if you try to do the minigame whenever possible. Alt1 has a fish flingers app that makes soloing the minigame fairly easy.
    • At 20 invention and 80 fishing you can start making the Shark outfit which is nice. Don't eat the fish you want to cook later.
  • The Fishing rod-o-matic can be made with invention. Honed is the only universally good perk, although Furnace can boost your xp at the cost of fish.
  • The Crystal fishing rod is a late addition (requires 93 fishing) but can be augmented and gives a 5% success chance boost.
  • Fishing urns can be a huge help, especially with the Urn enhancer.
  • The granite lobster is your best friend for grinding fishing.
  • The Call of the sea aura helps, but is an expensive use of loyalty points.
  • Don't forget to build an Aquarium as soon as possible. Many useful bonuses for fishing.
  • Fish pie and Admiral pie boost your fishing level by 3 and 5 respectively.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

See P2P Fishing training. It's advised to unlock the bank deposit box in the Port district (only 6k reputation) for the purpose of banking your fish to train cooking.

Useful dailies [edit | edit source]

Gorajo resource dungeon Shark or rocktail bubbles.

Useful monthlies [edit | edit source]

Giant oyster, don't forget to boost for optimal xp.

Fletching [edit | edit source]

Fletching is a pain to train, mostly revolving around a daily.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What
92 Make Superior scrimshaw of vampyrism, Superior scrimshaw of cruelty and Superior scrimshaw of the elements, the strongest scrimshaws.
93 Make Bakriminel bolts, here's a guide for collecting them.

The primary reason to train fletching is unlocking the powerful scrimshaws, specifically vampyrism, cruelty and elements (the strongest 3).

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • Fletching outfit, best gained using the Travelling merchant.
  • The Crystal knife helps with making unstrung bows or arrowshafts.
  • The Fletching potion boosts your level by 3.

Where to get materials [edit | edit source]

  • If you have Flax from rare drop table laying around, you can use the Spin Flax spell to quickly turn them into Bowstring. Otherwise, your best bet is to do Temple Trekking for the bowstring.
  • Feathers are easily obtained thanks to the feather packs being sold in all fishing shops.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

1-50 [edit | edit source]

Woodcut to train the skill. Make headless arrows.

50-52/81 [edit | edit source]

Use maple from kingdom to make headless arrows (see below) or unstrung bows. You can keep making unstrung bows if you hate dailies.

52-99 (daily arrowheads) [edit | edit source]

Every day, buy 3000 broad arrowheads from the Canifis slayer master (who is next to a lodestone) and the Burthorpe slayer master. While you're there, you might as well buy the gem packs and insulated boots for invention use. Go to the Port Sarim lodestone and buy 4 feather packs and 1000 individual feathers (just 3 feather packs for HCIM) from Gerrant. Finally, go to Edgeville and pick up your wilderness sword and get skulled by talking to Mr Ex (bank everything else). Use your sword to teleport to Forinthry dungeon, run to Bandit Duty Free and pick up the final 3000 arrowheads and, if you need them, the bloodweed seeds.

Every day, this will cost you 516k gp, but gives 144k xp (including feathering). It will take you approximately 800k broad arrows (or 3 months) to get to 99. For arrowshafts, you want to use either the maples from your kingdom or the magic logs you get from pvm.

70-99 (PvM) [edit | edit source]

If you have yew and magic logs from pvm, you can use these to make bows. The xp is fairly slow (comparable to broad arrows), but you can disassemble shortbows for components for siphons and rod-o-matics and the shieldbows for dummies or weapon gizmos.

81-99 (non-daily) [edit | edit source]

You can choose to do rune darts instead of broad bolts. While you will need to spend some time mining and smithing the dart tips, it's not a horrible choice if you hate dailies. You will need to get 11533 rune bars to make the dart tips for 99 from 81. While this is good mining and okay fletching xp, you will find that you won't get much smithing xp. It will cost you about 24 hours to mine and 100 hours to smith.

Herblore [edit | edit source]

Also known as the skill you put all your xp rewards on. No consistent way to train this skill. Extremely powerful rewards.

This section is no longer updated. For the more up-to-date version, see Ironman Mode/Strategies/Herblore

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What

81 Saradomin brew
82 Aggression potion and Weapon poison++.
85 Super antifire, so you can fight qbd if you want to.
87 Replenishment potion, the most efficient use of adrenaline potions.
90 Extended super antifire for 12 minutes of dragon slaying.
95 Extreme invention potion
96 Overload and Super prayer renewal.

98 Supreme overload potion, the ultimate stat boost.
99 Perfect plus, a very easy way to get all perfect skilling boosts for 4 hours.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The Scroll of cleansing gives extremely useful boosts to herblore, saving ingredients and time.
  • The Modified botanist's mask gives you 5% extra potions when making them as well as 1% bonus experience.
    • The full Botanist's outfit gives you 6% bonus experience but only worth using when making combination potions.
  • The Factory top, Factory gloves and Factory boots when equiped give a 10% chance to make a 4-dose instead of a 3-dose. This stacks with the modified mask and the boosts below.
    • The full Factory outfit provides an experience bonus when making unfinished potions, but this is not worth using over the 5% extra potions the modified mask provides.
  • Morytania legs 4 give a 20% chance to make a 4-dose prayer renewal instead of a 3-dose in morytania (use Canifis bank).
  • The Desert amulet 4 gives a 20% chance to make a 4-dose super antifire instead of a 3-dose in the desert (use Nardah bank).
  • The Botanist's amulet gives a 5% chance to make a 4-dose instead of a 3-dose on any potion.

Ideal setup [edit | edit source]

  • When making unfinished potions, wear the modified mask. You get 5% extra potions (since each action only gives 1 xp, you do not get bonus xp unless you can get 10% or more).
  • When making any (3) dose potion including extreme potions and overloads, wear the modified mask, botanist's amulet, factory top, botanist's legs, factory boots and factory gloves. You get about 10% extra potions and 2% extra xp.
    • If you're making prayer renewals, wear Morytania legs 4 instead of the legs and work in the Canifis bank or another bank in Morytania. You get about 17% extra potions and 1% extra xp.
    • If you're making super antifires, wear Desert amulet 4 instead of the amulet and work in the Nardah bank or another bank in the desert. You get about 15% extra potions and 1% extra xp.
    • If you're making overloads (or supreme overloads or elder overloads), wear the Herblore master cape and no factory outfit. You get about 26% extra potions and 6% extra xp.
  • When making Meilyr combination potions, wear the full botanist's outfit and wait for Meilyr hour while using a Perfect juju herblore potion or Perfect plus. You get 5% extra potions and 33% extra xp.

Where to get materials [edit | edit source]

    • Poison ivy berries from bush runs.
    • Coconut from fruit tree runs, menaphite gift offerings, Corrupted lizard or Camel warrior.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

Herblore is the slowest skill in the game to train without dailies. Use herbs obtained from slayer, prayer training, kingdom and herb runs to train as much as possible. Here's what you should use them on if you have them in large supply:

1-92/99 [edit | edit source]

These potions have easily obtainable secondaries, but do not give much xp compared to potions at level 99 and up.

See the above section on where to get secondaries. Herb burner is random drop from ghosts. While the xp it gives is low, it's better than nothing.

92/99-120 [edit | edit source]

At these levels you'll find that the herbs you get normally just don't give much xp. Instead, new options open up by using primal extract and the Ranch Out of Time.

Primal fruit pulp [edit | edit source]

One of your options is to do primal fruit runs. Plant the highest possible bush, cactus and fruit tree in their respective patches. See primal fruit pulp to see what levels the different seeds are. A typical run could look like this:

inventory setup

  • Teleport to the Varrock lodestone and run to the nearby bush patch.
  • Activate your greenfingers aura and summon a wolpertinger.
  • Pick from the bush.
  • Use hometeleport or a modified tablet to go to the Rimmington bush patch and pick from the bush.
  • Teleport to Kandarin monastry and pick from the bush.
  • Teleport to clan Crwys using a teleport crystal and pick from the bush.
  • Teleport to a spirit tree (using either spirit tree re-rooter, the grace of the elves or the manor farm teleport) use it to go to Etceteria and pick from the bush.
  • Run to the Menaphos cactus patch, dismiss your wolpertinger and summon a giant ent.
  • Pick from the cactus.
  • Teleport to the northern Anachronia totem spot with a totem of the abyss and pick from the cactus.
  • Home teleport to Al Kharid and pick from the cactus.
  • Teleport to a spirit tree, go to Tree Gnome Stronghold and pick from the fruit tree.
  • Home teleport to Catherby and pick from the fruit tree.
  • Use a teleport crystal to go to Lletya and pick from the fruit tree.
  • Use a teleport crystal to go to clan Meilyr and pick from the fruit tree.
  • Run to the nearby gnome glider, go to outside Tree Gnome Village and pick from the fruit tree.
  • Teleport to the herblore habitat with either a juju teleport bag or the witchdoctor mask and pick from the fruit tree.
  • Teleport to Brimhaven using a teleport tablet, the spirit tree or the Karamja lodestone and pick from the fruit tree.

With the highest possible fruit/bushes (carambola, golden dragonfruit, lychee) and all the xp boosts (botanist outfit, magic carpet, wise 3, sliske's endgame set) this should give you about 750 pulp or 125k herblore xp worth. You can use a pork pie to boost.

Bush patches take several hours to get their produce back, so you can fit in 2 or 3 of these runs per day. You can do much more runs of cactus and fruit if you so desire.

Using Ranch Out of Time produce [edit | edit source]

If you have a full ranch set up you can use the produce from the dinos to make high level, high xp potions. These are my suggested potions for training.

Summoning potions are too valuable to use for powerbursts of feats and poison bombs are trash.

Suggested strategy [edit | edit source]

Vuln bombs only require 1 resource not on a daily: dwarf weed. If you have a breeding pair of any of the rex dinos (higher level is better, but on average any works) and grow their babies in the large pens and breeding pen if the large pens are full you will get over 700 bottled roars per week. Since runes are limited to 300 soul runes per day, you can make 100 vuln bombs every day as long as you can get the dwarf weed. This makes it a fairly consistent training method for 110k xp per day at over 2m xp per hour.

"Herblore" dailies and stuff [edit | edit source]

Here's all the repeatable activities you can use for 'any' skill, which you should put on herblore:

  • Jack of trades aura, which you can reset twice every day, once with Vis wax and once if you have premier club.
  • Agaroth who you can defeat twice every week.
  • Penguin hide and seek which you can do once every week and another time if you buy a D&D token (weekly) from the merchant.
  • Troll Invasion which you can do once per month and another time if you buy a D&D token (monthly) from the merchant.

Separately, the Herby werby D&D gives herblore xp. Make sure to only steal from zygomites carrying healthy herbs, as the reward xp depends on the number of points you get from doing that. Any unhealthy herbs burned alocate points towards firemaking.

Hunter [edit | edit source]

Hunter used to be a pretty fast skill, but has been nerfed pretty hard.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What
59 Grab a Red salamander for shooting. Get Swamp tar for ammo from Aberrant specter, Cave slime or Big chinchompa.
67 Grab a Black salamander for shooting.
74 Get marble vines for juju farming potions.
77 Grenwalls for their spikes. Best place to hunt is the private hunting ground or the Gorajo resource dungeon.
94 Get every type of orokami on the arc.
95 Get every type of impling in the world.
96 Try to get the Terrasaur maul.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • You can grab an Enhanced yaktwee stick at 72 hunter. It takes a while to get but it's worth it (mostly because it's also a clue item).
  • The Hunter's outfit can be acquired from the arc but it's hard to get chimes at lower levels.
  • The Volcanic trapper outfit and variants help a lot, but can only be gotten starting at 70 hunter. You need 100 hunters marks from hunting on Anachronia to make the blueprint, which can be gained either passively while doing anything or guaranteed every succesful big game hunt.
  • The Tracker aura helps with low level hunter training and tortle hunting.
  • Hunter urns work with, well, hunter. Don't forget the Urn enhancer.
  • The Artic bear bears mentioning for the invisible boost.
  • The Hunter's Catalyst fragment from Sliske's Endgame resets any trap an animal set off without going inside.
  • The Extreme hunter potion is actually useful in training the skill, since it improves catch chance and lasts a long time.
  • The mud bath in Oo'glog provides a 10% hunter boost (rounded down).

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

See Hunter training. Remember that you can use an Extreme hunter potion to get access to higher level methods.

Big game hunter [edit | edit source]

Big game hunter is extremely important for high level (99+) farming and herblore. I strongly recommend to do as much of it as possible, at least until you have a good collection of dino eggs. Here's a video guide. For trim you need a breeding pair of every type, but for regular play a breeding pair with every type of produce (spark chitin, beak snot, bottled roars) is enough, plus 2 elders (any gender) for every farm totem perk you want.

Invention [edit | edit source]

Probably the most broadly useful skill. This section has been moved to Ironman_Mode/Strategies/Invention.

Magic [edit | edit source]

Magic is a combat skill, so for gear information see User:Ikbenbeter/Ironman#Magic.

Where to get runes [edit | edit source]

Runes have important use. Here's where to get them:

  • For elemental, body and mind runes, a good early source is the Void Knight Magic Store. Unlike f2p stores it stocks 1000 but has no special requirements.
  • For other runes, such as nature and soul, both Baba Yaga's Magic Shop and Magic Guild Store - Runes and Staves are easily accessible, although they don't store cosmic runes.
  • For cosmic runes do Rogue trader and use Ali's Discount Wares.
  • For astral runes you might not get by with the 100 you get at Baba Yaga's shop. You can get more from clue scrolls, ancient mages while trying to get ancient robes and, if all else fails, crafting them yourself.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

Also see Pay-to-play Magic training. You can also use slayer to train, as well as using magic at vyres for sweet prayer xp.

Melee [edit | edit source]

Also see User:Ikbenbeter/Ironman#Melee

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

Also see Pay-to-play melee training. Slayer, especially at high level, provides a lot of places to use melee once you get access to a scythe. Alternatively, vyres are best killed using melee so it's the best skill to train prayer with.

Mining [edit | edit source]

Companion skill of smithing.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • Always make sure you're using the highest level pickaxe you can.
    • The Dragon pickaxe (60), Crystal pickaxe (70), Imcando pickaxe (80) and Pickaxe of Earth and Song (90) are all augmentable, although not better than the next tier up of pickaxe (eg if you have an Imcando pickaxe and you're level 90 mining, you should still use an Elder rune pickaxe + 5.
    • The best augments are Honed (5 Silent components from death lotus shoes) and Refined (5 Resilient components from tetsu shoes). The power level of especially low level variants of these are rather low so the advantage of getting 1 or 2 dragon pickaxes is minimal if you're only going for 99 mining.
    • Fun fact: I came up with the name for the pickaxe of earth and song so disregard the previous point and get it as soon as you can.
  • Always use an Ore box unless you're using porters. Complete the Everything Is Oresome achievement as soon as you hit 90 mining.
  • Complete the Varrock achievements for major benefits to mining while wearing the armor. Complete the New Varrock achievements for even better benefits.
  • Golden mining suit from lava flow mine gives 6% extra xp. It's a requirement for getting the 2 strongest augmentable pickaxes too.
  • The Golem outfit gives major benefits, it can be made with 80 mining and 20 invention. It's easy to get while mining regularly.
  • Friends like the Obsidian golem and Lava titan are helpful.
  • Mining urns give little xp compared to other urns, but are still worth using if you only care about mining xp. Don't forget your Urn enhancer.
  • The Superior rock-crushing scrimshaw can give some extra ore and xp. The Superior gem-finding scrimshaw gives extra geodes.
  • A Perfect juju mining potion is very powerful and gives a flat 10% extra ore as well as refilling stamina.
  • Quarrymaster aura and its upgrades help, but have relatively minor effects for the price.
  • Unlike some other places, skillchompas are used at an extremely low rate while mining.
  • Luck rings give a higher chance for metamorphic geodes.
  • The Amulet of glory gives a higher chance for geodes.
  • A Mature dwarven stout is easily obtained from pickpocketing Trahaearn worker and gives a +2 boost.

Where to mine [edit | edit source]

Not every mine is equally suited for mining. Number of rocks & distance to bank are both important: the closer the rocks are together, the faster you can make use of rockertunities. The closer a mine is to a bank, the more you can bank.

Ore Level Location(s)
Copper&Tin ore 1 Varrock South-West mine, bank in Varrock.
Iron ore 10 Lumbridge south-west mine, bank in Draynor Village.
Coal 20 Lumbridge south-west mine, bank in Draynor Village or Falador west mine with 5 Agility. Use Concentrated coal deposit if you're 77 mining.
Silver ore 20 Falador west mine with 5 Agility or Crafting Guild after Hard Falador achievements (for deposit box).
Mithril ore 30 Varrock South-West mine, bank in Varrock or Dwarven Mine resource dungeon with 15 Dungeoneering.
Adamantite ore 40 Varrock South-East mine or Trahaearn adamantite mine.
Gold ore 40 Dwarven Mine resource dungeon with 15 Dungeoneering or Crafting Guild after Hard Falador achievements. Use Concentrated gold deposit after 80 mining.
Luminite 40 Dwarven luminite mine, deposit in the resource dungeon with 15 Dungeoneering.
Runite ore 50 Fight Arena south-east mine, deposit in Port Khazard. Use the Trahaearn runite mine after unlocking priff.
Drakolith 60 Mining Guild resource dungeon with 45 Dungeoneering. Deposit in the furnaces at the artisan's workshop.
Necrite ore 70 Uzer mine, use porters, take the carpet to Nardah or use desert amulet 4 for teleportation.
Phasmatite 70 Port Phasmatys South mine, take Ectophial or use porters, or Dwarven Mine resource dungeon after hard Daemonheim achievements.
Banite ore 80 Arctic (azure) habitat mine with porters or Glacor cavern mine after Ritual of the Mahjarrat.
Dark animica 90 Anachronia Swamp mine is better than the Empty Throne Room mine but might be hard to reach without a Slayer cape. Also see the final entry.
Light animica 90 Lletya mine, teleport to the lodestone. Also see next entry.
Light and Dark animica 90 Use "harmed ore" fc during Trahaern hour to find an ideal world.

If a rock is not mentioned, only 1 place is available outside the wilderness. Note that every ore has at least 1 place where you can mine it without anything but the mining level.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

Mining should almost always be trained in service of smithing or crafting, especially because smithing is required to make better pickaxes. Otherwise, just mine the highest level ore you can or Alaea crablets at 97.

Useful dailies [edit | edit source]

Shooting Star.

Prayer [edit | edit source]

Extremely useful skill that is very annoying to train.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The First age outfit gives 6% extra xp and is easiest obtained from using ashes from twin furies at the Ectofuntus.
  • The Perfect juju prayer potion gives 5% extra xp.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

1-40 [edit | edit source]

Do The Nexus.

40-70/75 [edit | edit source]

Get the bonecrusher as soon as possible and use it as much as you can. Prayer is extremely slow at lower level. If you're really having trouble, you can kill and bank Dragon bones from blue dragons and use them on the chaos/house altar. Don't use this method to train past 75 though.

70-92 [edit | edit source]

Low level vyre setup. You can do them as soon as you unlock them, but you might have to bank a lot. It's still the best method.

92-99 [edit | edit source]

High level vyre setup. Some of this stuff is overkill, but with soul split at least you have access to power armor. The rings take too long to get so are not worth using

1-99 (pvm) [edit | edit source]

Vindicta and the Twin Furies drop large numbers of dragon bones and infernal ashes respectively. Use these at the wilderness (or house if you're an hcim) altar.

Useful dailies and stuff [edit | edit source]

Do Nemi Forest daily, Skeletal horror weekly (once unlocked) and God Statues monthly.

Ranged [edit | edit source]

Ranged is a combat skill, so for gear information see User:Ikbenbeter/Ironman#Ranged.

Where to get ammo [edit | edit source]

  • Buy bronze-adamant ammo in Varrock and Rimmington, you don't need much unless you're using legacy.
  • Rune arrows can either be smithed or given in large numbers by hard clue scrolls.
  • Swamp tar is best obtained from Aberrant specter, Cave slime or Big chinchompa.
  • If you have chaotic crossbows you will still need to do Queen Black Dragon for Royal bolts.
  • Bakriminel bolt run guide.
  • Remaining ammo should be obvious how to get.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

See Pay-to-play ranged training. Vyres can also be done with ranged, but it's not as efficient as the other 2 styles.

Runecrafting [edit | edit source]

Be glad this is not oldschool.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What
55 Make Small rune pouch.
90 Make Large rune pouch.
91 Double nature runes.
93 Make Tectonic armour

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The Master runecrafter robes give 5% extra xp. Bought with 4000 runespan points.
    • The ethereal outfits give many bonuses. Easiest way to obtain the fragments is runespan.
  • The Runecrafter's Catalyst fragment from Sliske's Endgame makes pouches last longer.
  • Runecrafting urns exist so use them! Urn enhancer-only ironman btw.
  • The Abyssal parasite, Abyssal lurker and Abyssal titan are friends.
  • Runecrafting pouches are very useful. They are obtained from killing abyss monsters, which you can kill without going through the wilderness using fairy ring code ALR.
  • Wilderness sword 1 for teleporting to Edgeville.
  • Wicked hood for free essence and stuff. See below how to fill it.

Where to get materials [edit | edit source]

  • Rune or Pure essence are awarded in large quantities from doing daily challenges. Check which price is higher to see which one you will get from your daily, ideally postphone the daily if rune essence currently has a higher grand exchange price.
  • Pure essence are given out in limited quantity from the chest in the Wizard Tower after Rune Memories. If you need more, you get a lot from capsarii or abyssal demons.
  • Air to law talismen are dropped by abyssal creatures. Use the fairy ring code ALR if you don't want to enter the wilderness.
  • The blood and Death talisman are rewards from Legacy of Seergaze and Mourning's End Part II.
  • The final talisman, the Soul talisman, can be difficult to obtain. Opening a sarcophagus in Shifting Tombs gives a 0.5% chance to get one each time. feline akhs drop them as well, but require 107 Slayer (boostable).

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

1-90 [edit | edit source]

Runespan. HCIM can use this to 99.

77-90 (after slayer) [edit | edit source]

Do blood runes through the abyss. 77-90 requires 106k pure essence, so this is not viable unless you have been doing a lot of slayer. This is also the best way to get Magical thread for rune pouches, although you need not specifically do blood runes as all altars offer the same rate of threads.

90-99 [edit | edit source]

Do soul runes using this method. 90-99 only requires about 30k pure essence, so if you use the essence from the chest you will only need about 5,000 more essence from other sources to get to 99.

Useful dailies [edit | edit source]

Runesphere is easy xp, but can be annoying to locate.

Slayer [edit | edit source]

Slayer is one of the most popular skills in the game due to awarding a lot of resources. Note that you can boost to kill any monster, but can't boost to get a task.

Which master for drops [edit | edit source]

Drop Level Master
Hexcrest 73 Sumona
Focus sight 77 Sumona
Nightmare gauntlets 80 Morvran
Laceration boots and Blast diffusion boots 90 Laniakea
Cinderbane gloves 104 Morvran
Key to the Crossing 88 (to get tasks), 115 (to use) Sumona, also see this guide.

Use VIP tickets and favorite these tasks for the highest chance to get them. Favoriting doubles the chance to get a task of your choice, VIP tickets double too and using both will triple the chance to get a specific favorite task. Also see Slayer/Task Extenders.

Optimal perk setups [edit | edit source]

Due to the minor advantage of tier 80 and 90 armour in terms of offense, the best slayer armor is Bandos, Armadyl and subjugation equipment. Tier 80 armor uses twice the divine charges and tier 90 three times the divine charges. The only exception is tasks like Airut where you want all the defense you can get. Use the following armor perks:

Gizmo Combo Rarity Style Use
Biting 2 Genocidal 3 direct 1 powerful 1 Bandos/undead Medium All Primary dps perk for slayer. Use on every task you can.
Demonslayer Undead Slayer 1 undead 4 dextrous Medium Melee Edimmu tasks and the many demon tasks you do with melee.
Demonslayer Dragonslayer 1 Enhancing 1 dextrous 1 Base parts 1 Clear parts Medium Ranged Dragon tasks and chinning abyssal demons.
Scavenging 3 5 precious High All Extremely powerful on tasks like abyssal demons where you're killing many monsters at the same time. Don't try for this before 120 invention with extreme potions.

See also the armour section in the pocketbook.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

Always make sure you have VIP tickets.

Soul reaper [edit | edit source]

Even if you have help, you will still get xp for doing daily Soul Reaper tasks. This only requires 50 combat and can skip early slayer levels easily.

Masters [edit | edit source]

If your slayer level is roughly the same as you combat and gear levels (eg, 85 slayer, 85 magic, sunspear) you should usually be fine, although some tasks can be very tough. For example, without arrows or dragonbane bolts the defence of celestial dragons is extremely high. Similarly, the level 96 slayer monsters have extremely high defence. If you are suffering from a gear deficiency, it might be wise to step down a slayer master (or pick up some better gear).

Spending slayer points [edit | edit source]

  1. Your first upgrade should be the fletching upgrade.
  2. Next pick up slayer helmets, rings of slaying and quick kills. You can do it in any order but I suggest this one.
  3. After that you can go for the slayer helm upgrades (including fusing rings) while spending 100 points whenever you get a task that is on your ideal block/prefer list.
  4. Once you have all or most of the slayer helmet upgrades, you can choose between filling out the Slayer codex by buying Ushabti (99 slayer required) or the convenience of adding to the toolbelt.
    1. Ushabti give 1% extra slayer xp per 20 monsters (400 points) up to 100 monsters (2,000 points).
    2. Toolbelt upgrades should be done in the order charming imp, bonecrusher, gold accumulator (if owned), seedicide. Herbicide is mostly useless so save it for the very last if you want to get it at all.
  5. Once you have everything permanent and are happy with your block/prefer list, use remaining points to skip bad tasks or even extend your favorite tasks.

Bonus slayer points [edit | edit source]

Sometimes you are stuck with no points and a task you really want to skip. In those cases, The Assassin on Aminishi can help you if you have 90 slayer. Her contracts provide slayer points while you still have your normal task.

Optimal block/prefer lists [edit | edit source]

Before reaching Laniakea, it's considered a waste of points to block tasks that are not on your ideal block list. However, prefering tasks with valuable drops like Jungle strykewyrm is still worthwhile.

To build an optimal block/prefer list, you have to consider 2 things: which tasks you want to do and what their weight is. For example, black dragons might be a long task but their weight of 5 means you won't see a lot of tasks. Conversely, you might not have much trouble with crystal shapeshifers but their weight is 12, making them prime blocking material.

My current block list is Dagannoth, Black demon, Greater demon, Dark beast and Crystal shapeshifter. Tasks under weight 10 are almost never worth blocking. For a list on best xp block list, check the guides section in this pocketbook. For the math behind that guide and making your own block/prefer list, this spreadsheet by Jona than is a great help.

Individual monster advice [edit | edit source]

Primary sources for individual monsters are Tonix RS (formerly puretppc) for medium level and Jona than for high level setups. Still, here's my notes on various monsters:

Monster Notes
Acheron mammoths Use a stab weapon or drygores. Pray soul split for the first 5 seconds (they always start with a prayer blocking attack) then switch to melee. When they charge, use Devotion or Debilitate rather than trying to move out of the way.
Aquanite Don't enable these.
Automatons Easiest are the magic ones, since they won't come to you to mess you up.
Aviansie Do Kree'arra.
Black dragon King Black Dragon drops an mqc book.
Camel Warrior Use melee, ideally a combination of scythe/lance and dual wield, to use area of effect abilities on them. Kill shadow or blood first.
Celestial dragon, Gemstone dragon Use arrows or dragonbane bolts. They have very high defense.
Crystal shapeshifter Ranged is the easiest style for looting (they will come to you). Wear the (attuned) crystal gloves & boots. Drop an mqc requirement.
Dinosaur Do venomous dinosaurs for fast easy tasks, or Brutish for optimal xp and boot chance with a cannon.
Elves Lletya elves for crystal teleport seeds for enhanced devoted 3, Cadarn elves for title.
Glacor If you enable these (for the soul, boots or swag), stand far away, use fire spells and kill the exploding glacyte last.
Greater demon Do K'ril Tsutsaroth.
Kal'gerion demon Use Darklight after Dimension of Disaster upgrade. If your magic level is much higher than your attack use magic instead.
Kalphites Do Kalphite King.
Lava strykewyrm (Block if HCIM. Weight is on the lower side but you will never want to end up in a situation where you lose your task streak over this task). Use Elder rune equipment and a +5 weapon if you fear taking your stuff into the wilderness.
Living wyvern Do not use scythe or lance. You want to be in melee distance as much as possible.
Muspah Enable either these or nightmares. For pouch components.
Mutated jadinko See the section on where to get seeds for the strategy to use these for seeds.
Nightmare Enable these for the gloves & Nightmare muspah pouch components.
Nihil Enable for the pouch components. At low level, wear your shard of Zaros to de-aggro and kill the Smoke nihil with overloads on using ranged.
Order of Ascension Use these tasks to hunt Capsarius souls. After you get all 5 souls, use these tasks to use up your keys. Can also be blocked due to low xp.
Revenant (Wilderness slayer only). See this post for how to kill them, use Elder rune 2h sword +5 until you get the materials to attune the bane sword.
Ripper Demon Darklight with upgrade. Armor spikes deal high damage here. If you have trouble or no strong melee offhand available, you can elect to use a defender to make the task easier on yourself.
Stalker creature While not great xp, if you want the Hexhunter bow, there's 2 strategies. Either kill soulgazers until you run out of seeker charms then do seekers for the rest of the task, or between tasks kill seekers until you have 18 charms and then kill soulgazers for the full slayer tasks.
Tormented demon Wear hybrid armor, use legacy mode and wear darklight in your main hand with either an Off-hand shadow glave or another ranged offhand and magic dreadnips. Also see Tormented demon/Strategies#Legacy methods.
Vile blooms Luminous snagglers have good spirit weed seeds drops, Lampenflora are fast and Liverworts provide the best xp and boots chance.

Wilderness slayer [edit | edit source]

Wilderness slayer is the best way to get augmentable ancient warrior equipment, most notably the Statius's warhammer and Vesta's spear. Note that prefer and block list do not apply, but you can skip tasks. This is also the only way to get Decimation (the other 2 weapons are not really worth the time it takes to get them). It's not super strong, but it's (reasonable to get) best in slot for Capsarius and its special attack has some niche uses. If you're not after the specific rewards, Wilderness slayer isn't a terrible way to get slayer points, although the xp is not great on some tasks. Dying with a bounty emblem in your inventory reduces its tier by one and resets its potential.

Smithing [edit | edit source]

Also see Mining.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What
1/10/.../70 Make the best in slot melee weapons for the same attack level. For example, an orikalkum sword + 3 does more damage than a dragon weapon.
80 Make your own obsidian armor for easy fight kiln. Revenantbane weapons are also strong for grinding revenants. Dragonbane is weak as it does not get an accuracy bonus. Abyssalbane is stronger than zaros godsword/kopeshes versus abyssal demons but lacks the scythe's range.
90 Make Armor spikes. These deal some extra damage when using melee. The elder rune + 5 weapons also are strong if you can't get weapons above tier 80.
99 Make Masterwork armor, your very own easy t90 power armor. Armor spikes deal max damage.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

General [edit | edit source]

  • The Blacksmith's outfit awards 6% extra xp.
  • Varrock armor improves your smelting and smithing for normal ores. Do the New Varrock achievements for further improvements.
  • Superheat form makes smithing more afk and is especially useful when combined with the Rapid perk. It also improves smelting speed by 1 tick.

Smithing [edit | edit source]

  • The Hammer-tron can be fit with augments. Tinker (fungal or clockwork components, rare from fungal) and Rapid (enhancing components) benefit your xp per hour. Breakdown gives a very small amount of extra components.
  • A Crystal hammer can be augmented and speeds up your smithing.
  • The Scroll of efficiency returns some bars to you.
  • A Perfect juju smithing potion increases your smithing speed.
  • Falador shield 4 gives extra respect while smithing at artisan's.
  • The Smithing autoheater improves fully afk smithing at the cost of coal. It's only worth using if you had a lot of coal banked from before the rework.

Smelting [edit | edit source]

  • Smelting urns are powerful when used while smelting corrupted ore, but offer little benefit when used with normal bars. Also make sure to use an Urn enhancer.
  • The Modified blacksmith's helmet gives 1% extra bars. It is always the sixth piece of the blacksmith outfit unlocked.
  • Smelting gauntlets deposit bars smelted into the metal bank automatically, allowing you to smelt up to 60 at a time.

Spending respect [edit | edit source]

Order for spending respect is important, as different upgrades give different xp. My suggested order is as follows:

  1. Start with the 6 blacksmith outfit pieces. The first 5 improve your smithing xp by 1% each and 6% for the set, while the final piece gives you 1% extra bars (300% respect or 3m xp). If you plan to do corrupted ore to 99, only get the first 5 outfit pieces and skip all the other artisan upgrades and go straight for restocking cannon.
  2. Next get some or all of the Solemn smith upgrades. Each increases your xp per burial set by 1% and burial sets account for a third of your xp (300% respect or 3m xp).
  3. Get the Quick repairs and repair expert upgrades as they're very cheap (20% respect or 200k xp).
  4. Grab ceremonial sword orders if you enjoy doing the random event (100% respect or 1m xp).
  5. Get the 5 ceremonial swordsmith upgrades if you enjoy doing the random event (150% respect or 1.5m xp).
  6. Get restocking cannon, the only upgrade that impacts your life outside of smithing (250% respect or 2.5m xp).

This takes a total of 11,200,000 smithing experience in the artisan workshop to get all the upgrades. If you do not go for any of the upgrades except the outfit and cannon, it will take a total of 5m xp, which is enough xp to get to level 89 smithing. After you have all the above unlocks, you can choose to go for the cosmetic stuff or get injectors.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

Smithing is straightforward to train: simply mine the best ore you can smith and smith those at the Artisans workshop.

1-40 [edit | edit source]

Bronze/iron/steel/mithril platebodies with the highest +. Generally speaking, you should not smelt all the bars you need for a full tier at once since you get bonus bars at certain thresholds. Simply smelt the bars you need for a single platebody, make the platebody and repeat until you get access to a new metal tier.

40-99/89 [edit | edit source]

Burial sets of the highest metal you can mine and smith. Burial sets give 5% xp (increases up to 10% with all 5 solemn smith upgrades) over regular items. Again, make sure to only smelt the bars you need for 1 set at a time until you have unlocked 10% extra bars for that tier.

89-99 [edit | edit source]

Corrupted ore offers less xp than burial sets, but is significantly more afk. The difference is fairly small, although you're missing out on the ceremonial sword random events and the respect you might need for cannon upgrades.

90-99 [edit | edit source]

Instead of making burial sets, you can choose to make elder rune platebodies + 5 and alch them. This is significantly slower xp but offers fairly good gold.

Note: a common mistake I see is that people think a previous tier is faster. This is only the case if you use stone spirits for all your mining for that previous tier but not of the current tier. If you do not have stone spirits for either tier, it's always better to do your highest tier metal.

Summoning [edit | edit source]

A very useful skill, both for combat and outside.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

I will only list combat familiars as I've mentioned skilling familiars in their relevant sections.

Level What
52 Spirit terrorbird, your first beast of burden.
61 Smoke devil, the only ironman-available area of effect familiar.
67 War tortoise, your next beast of burden.
68 bunyip, who can heal you which is relevant in some low level situations.
77 Talon beast, your best combat familiar until steel titans (aside from nihils).
84 Spirit pack pig with 22 slots. You can get 10 free every week from Eli. Alternatively, if you're cheap with prayer you can go for a Spirit pack pig which restores prayer points.
87 Nihil familiars who give 5% extra accuracy, the best dps familiar in cases where your familiar cannot damage your opponent or you don't want to use titan scrolls.
88 Unicorn stallion for stackable healing (this is not relevant in high level pvm) as well as the Light creature (familiar) for extra Tears of Guthix.
96 Pack yak. Baroo baroo.
99 Steel titan, the best dps familiar, especially when you use the scrolls and summoning potions.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The Shaman's outfit is a reward from Familiarisation (make sure to grab the infinite run energy from Oo'glog).
    • The Modified shaman's headdress saves 5% of charms.
  • Spirit gems are a slayer drop that saves a bunch of charms.
  • Summoning focuses are an uncommon drop from feline and scarab akhs. Each one gives 20% extra xp per pouch.
  • A Charming imp picks up your charms for you.

Where to get charms [edit | edit source]

  • Gold charms are easy to get from Gelatinous abomination as they are easy to kill and give gold charms commonly. At high level, you can also elect to kill giant rock crabs as they drop 3 at a time. Hellhounds have slightly lower charms per hour but give hard clue scrolls in very large numbers.
  • Green charms are easy to get from level 12 Cave bug. They're not widely used for training.
  • Crimson charms are best obtained from waterfiends in the Ancient cavern. This is also the best use of your triple charms.
  • Blue charms are rare early on but can be gotten in relatively high numbers from Exiled kalphite guardian, Glacor and Tormented demon.
  • Elder charms are best gotten from nihil since they also drop the components for pouches. Here's a guide on how to kill them fastest.

Where to get important secondaries [edit | edit source]

Secondary Pouch Place
Raw bird meat Spirit terrorbird 300 per day from Chargurr Oo'glog.
Abyssal charm Abyssal parasite/lurker/titan Killing abyssal creatures in the abyssal area (fairy ring ALR) or the abyss itself.
Goat horn dust Smoke devil Corporeal Beast or goats in the desert.
Tortoise shell War tortoise Killing the tortoises in the northern part of the tree gnome stronghold.
Polar kebbit fur Arctic bear Get Polar kebbit quota ticket from Big chinchompa.
Obsidian charm Obsidian golem/Lava titan Kill TzHaar near a bank.
Granite Granite lobster Mine it yourself with porters.
Muspah spine Nightmare muspah Kill Nightmare using this method.
Demon claw Demon brawler Nowhere :(
Nihil bits Nihil familiars use this method to get any of the secondaries. You can then switch between any of them for just 5 elder energy per component.
Yak hide Pack yak Buy 1000 per day from Vanligga Gastfrihet after The Fremennik Isles.
Steel ingot Steel titan Buy 10 steel platebodies from Horvik and Zenesha per day and convert them at a furnace. Mine your own iron and concentrated coal with porters and make them yourself.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

You should primarily be training with charms you get from slayer. However, if you're short it's best to get either gold charms (until level 46 summoning) or crimson charms (after level 46). from Manlover's Ironman guide:

Using gold charms [edit | edit source]

  • 1-4 Spirit wolves with bones from killing wolves.
  • 4-16 Dreadfowl with raw chickens from killing chickens.
  • 16-52 Granite crab with iron ore from mining it yourself.
  • 52-99 Spirit terrorbird with bought raw bird meat.

Once you reach around level 70 summoning, it's not adviced to train with gold charms anymore.

Using green charms [edit | edit source]

  • 33-47 Beavers with willow logs from woodcutting.
  • 47-56 Magpie with gold rings you make yourself.
  • 56-99 Ibis with harpoons.

Once you reach around level 70 summoning, it's not adviced to train with green charms anymore.

Using crimson charms [edit | edit source]

  • 46-49 Pyrelords with tinderboxes from Ignatius Vulcan.
  • 49-64 Bloated leeches with raw beef from Canifis and Oo'glog.
  • 64-74 Stranger plants with bagged plant 1 from the garden supplier.
  • 74-96 Granite lobsters with granite from mining with porters.
  • 96-99 Pack yaks with bought yak hides.

Using blue charms [edit | edit source]

  • 36-99 Highest tier minotaur with bars from smithing them yourself.

Note that you might get useful secondaries from slayer (especially celestial dragons) or other sources (such as talon beast charm from temple trekking). You should always use those if they're higher level (or talon beasts, as they give more xp than any other pouch) over the pouches listed above. However, they're not very consistent to get.

Useful daily/weekly [edit | edit source]

  • Bork gives some good charms every day.
  • Eli gives away 10 useful pack pig pouches weekly if you have made the highest tier of machine.
  • Familiarisation (don't forget to grab the Salt-water spring beforehand) gives bonus charms and item boxes. Until you have the full shaman outfit including the modified headdress, pick item boxes (you will get a piece guaranteed if you got max points) 6 times and then pick extra charms. The extra charms are easiest to use on waterfiends but can be used on other good charm sources if you want to.

Thieving [edit | edit source]

Pick pockets and safes for fun and profit.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What
1 Gullible tourist for Menaphite gift offering (small).
62 Start safecracking for money.
91-98 Pickpocket Prifddinas elves for an array of useful items. Iorwerth and Cadarn workers give super potions, Ithell workers give soft clay and tool seeds, Amlodd workers give porters IV, Crwys workers give supercompost, Hefin workers give extra prayer and agility xp as well as accursed ashes for incense sticks and Meilyr workers give snape grass, dragon scale dust and tokens. You need to unlock 5 clans for a full rotation. It's also a great source for elite clues, especially while wearing the luck of the Dwarves.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • The Black Ibis outfit gives 5% extra xp. However, due to the long time it takes to get the outfit, it's not worth getting unless you're going for 120 or 200m thieving. Wait for a skilling weekend that gives bonus chance and then loot all urns in the first few rooms. If you're going for the sceptre, keep running to the last room and open the special sarcophagus and exit until you get the sceptre. Also see this video.
  • The Camouflage outfits are incredibly powerful and made with 80 thieving and 20 invention with fragments you get from thieving. The fastest way to get this outfit is to do Shifting tombs. It carries over all other thieving outfit bonuses if you have gotten those sets.
  • The Trahaearn exoskeleton set has bonuses for pickpocketing and pyramid plunder and carries over the xp outfit. The gloves function as Gloves of silence if you have 75 hunter as well as thieving.
  • Featherfingered necklace helps with pickpocketing dwarf traders but only has 10 charges per necklace.
  • The Soul-in-a-box helps with pickpocketing dwarf traders.
  • The Five-finger discount aura and its upgrades help with pickpocketing dwarf traders.
  • Ardounge cloak 3 gives increased pickpocket chance. Thieving cape carries over the effect.
  • The Abyssal lurker boosts thieving by 4 when its scroll is used.
  • Totem of Crystal reduces elf pickpocketing cooldown so you can remove a clan from your rotation, but takes up a totem slot.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

See Thieving training. For routes for safecracking, see this guide.

Woodcutting [edit | edit source]

Woodcutting is one of the slowest skills in the game. Also pretty useless.

Useful rewards [edit | edit source]

Level What
35 Teaks.
85 Bloodwood.

Useful items [edit | edit source]

  • Once you get a Dragon hatchet, you can put it on your toolbelt. Even on your toolbelt it can be turned into a Crystal hatchet.
  • You can augment the crystal and dragon hatchet, even if it's on your toolbelt. It's not adviced to augment your dragon hatchet as it will mean you can't make it crystal. Put Honed, Refined and Furnace (perk) on your augmented hatchet. Furnace is harmful when getting teaks for construction or bloodwood but a pretty good source of xp.
  • Lumberjack clothing can be gotten from Temple Trekking. If you see a broken bridge, kill undead lumberjacks until you get 1 piece or no more spawn, then move on.
  • The Nature's sentinel outfit and the lower versions can be made with level 80 woodcutting and 20 invention. The fastest way to get fragments is doing Overgrown idol, but only 10% faster. The outfit gives access to a new daily for easy woodcutting xp and provides some minor woodcutting boosts.
  • Yes, even woodcutting has urns. Use the Urn enhancer if you can.
  • Lumberjack aura gives better woodcutting rates.
  • The Perfect juju woodcutting potion gives better woodcutting rates.
  • The Superior log-splitting scrimshaw costs 4 ancient bones and does not work on bloodwood or trees that do not give logs.
  • Beavers are the only woodcutting familiar.
  • A Ring of Whispers gives 3 invisible woodcutting levels.

Training the skill [edit | edit source]

See Pay-to-play Woodcutting training.

Best perks [edit | edit source]

For getting level 99: honed 4/5/6 (silent from death lotus darts) and furnace 2/3/4 (imbued).

After getting 99, for bgh and bloodwood: honed 6 and refined 4 (resilient from tetsu boots or dino hide boots).

Useful daily [edit | edit source]

Evil Tree. Once you have the full sentinel outfit you can plant a daily mini evil tree which gives some free wc xp.
