What the Bible Says About Family Conflict

For many people, nothing is more important than family, be it blood-bound or chosen. At the end of the day, your family is made up of the people who love and support you unconditionally. Showing unwavering affection, however, is a two-way street, and it's important that you are just as open to giving as you are to receiving. But some people struggle to put their thoughts and feelings into words. If you're a particularly religious person, you may want to consider sharing Bible verses about family with your loved ones to show just how much you love and support them in return.

These inspiring scriptures are the perfect way to remind faith-based family members that you — and God — love them forever. It could also benefit them mentally; seeing encouraging Bible scripture pop up in a text might force them to take a minute to stop in their hectic day, say a small prayer, and reflect on those who mean the most to them. Even if your family already has a deep relationship with the Lord, saying one family-centered Bible verse a day can bring you all closer together and intensify your passion for your faith — just wait.

1

"As for husbands, love your wives just like Christ loved the church and gave himself for her." — Ephesians 5:25

The Good News: Jesus loved us and his faith so much that he sacrificed himself so we could have eternal life with him. Husbands and wives should love each other and commit themselves to each other just the same.

2

"Honor your father and your mother so that your life will be long on the fertile land that the Lord your God is giving you." — Exodus 20:12

The Good News: Appreciate the days that God has given you and show him your devotion by honoring the gift that he gave you: your mother and father.

3

"As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you; in Jerusalem you will be comforted." — Isaiah 66:13

The Good News: Comfort and care for your elders. In return, the Lord will comfort you in heaven.

4

"Parents, don't provoke your children in a way that ends up discouraging them." — Colossians 3:21

The Good News: Parents, do not discourage or punish your children, particularly in their faith. This will cause them to be discouraged and spiteful.

5

"My son, keep your father's command; don't abandon your mother's instruction." — Proverbs 6:20

The Good News:Obey your father and mother, for they will lead you on the path of goodness and graciousness.

6

"Friends love all the time, and kinsfolk are born for times of trouble." — Proverbs 17:17

The Good News: Friends come and go, but family sticks with you during the hardest of times.

7

"Those who say, 'I love God' and hate their brothers or sisters are liars. After all, those who don't love their brothers or sisters whom they have seen can hardly love God whom they have not seen!" — 1 John 4:20

The Good News: You cannot say you truly love the Lord unless you show it in your actions, which includes loving the people you hate most.

8

"Those who trouble their family will inherit the wind. The fool will be servant to the wise." — Proverbs 11:29

The Good News: If you bring trouble and harm to your family, you will gain absolutely nothing. But if you care and bring love to your home, you will only gain the same in return.

9

"Train children in the way they should go; when they grow old, they won't depart from it." — Proverbs 22:6

The Good News: Raise your children how you would want to be raised. They will learn from you, and when they grow older, they will teach their own children the same ways.

10

"Be tolerant with each other and, if someone has a complaint against anyone, forgive each other. As the Lord forgave you, so also forgive each other." — Colossians 3:13

The Good News: The Lord has and will forgive us for all of our sins. This is no easy task, and therefore we must take from his example and forgive others when they sin against us.

11

"As for parents, don't provoke your children to anger, but raise them with discipline and instruction about the Lord." — Ephesians 6:4

The Good News: Parents, do not harm or distress your children, but when you discipline them when necessary, think of what Jesus do. Give them grace and compassion.

12

"Now faith, hope, and love remain — these three things — and the greatest of these is love." — 1 Corinthians 13:13

The Good News: We all must have faith, hope, and love, but love is the greatest gift of all. Where this is love, there is also faith and hope.

13

"But if someone doesn't provide for their own family, and especially for a member of their household, they have denied the faith. They are worse than those who have no faith." — 1 Timothy 5:8

The Good News: If you do not love and care for your family, especially your immediate family, then you are denying your faith in God. In scripture, this is worse than not believing in God at all.

14

"We love because God first loved us." — 1 John 4:19

The Good News: We only have love for others because God loved us first. We must never forget this.

15

"Look at how good and pleasing it is when families live together as one. " — Psalm 133:1

The Good News: Don't take the phrase "living together" literally. Parents who live separately but still raise children together still adhere to this scripture by communicating and working to raise children with love.

16

"No doubt about it: children are a gift from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a divine reward. The children born when one is young are like arrows in the hand of a warrior. The person who fills a quiver full with them is truly happy! They won't be ashamed when arguing with their enemies in the gate." — Psalm 127:3-5

The Good News: Every child is a gift, whether they are born to you or not. Treat all of them as your own, and you'll benefit from their love.

17

"In the same way, though there are many of us, we are one body in Christ, and individually we belong to each other." — Romans 12:5

The Good News: Though made of individuals, a family is one unit.

18

"My child, if your heart is wise, then my heart too will be happy." — Proverbs 23:15

The Good News: If your child is happy, you will be happy. If your child is successful, you will be successful.
